What is Clomiphene 100 Mg ?
Clomid, which also goes by the name Clomiphene Citrate, is one of the most widely trusted fertility medications on the market. In most cases, it’s considered the “first-line” fertility medication and is used to treat a range of infertility factors – usually those related to irregular ovulation.
Clomid blocks estrogen production, and this stimulates your hypothalamus and pituitary glands to produce gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and luteinizing hormone (LH).
The presence of these hormones catalyzes the maturation of the egg follicles, increasing the chances of ovulation.
Do not use clomiphene if you are already pregnant.
You should not use clomiphene if you have: liver disease, unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding, an uncontrolled adrenal gland or thyroid disorder, an ovarian cyst (unrelated to polycystic ovary syndrome), or if you are pregnant.
Side Effects
Stomach upset, bloating, abdominal/pelvic fullness, flushing (“hot flashes”), breast tenderness, headache, or dizziness may occur. If any of these effects last or get worse, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor right away if you have any serious side effects, including: abnormal vaginal bleeding, mental/mood changes.
Vision changes (e.g., blurred vision, seeing spots or flashes) may sometimes occur during clomiphene treatment, especially if you are exposed to bright light. These side effects usually go away a few days or weeks after treatment is stopped. However, in rare cases, vision changes may be permanent. Get medical help right away if any of the following occur: vision problems/changes, eye pain.
Precautions
Perform initial complete pelvic and endocrinologic exam. If ovarian enlargement occurs, hold dose until ovaries return to pretreatment size, and reduce dosage or duration of next course. Polycystic ovary syndrome. Discontinue if visual disorders occur. Metabolism disorders (eg, hypertriglyceridemia). Preexisting or family history of hyperlipidemia: monitor plasma triglycerides periodically. Nursing mothers.
You should not use clomiphene if you are allergic to it, or if you have:
- unexplained abnormal vaginal bleeding;
- an ovarian cyst that is not related to polycystic ovary syndrome;
- past or present liver disease;
- a pituitary gland or other brain tumor;
- an untreated or uncontrolled problem with your thyroid or adrenal gland; or
- if you are pregnant.
To make sure clomiphene is safe for you, tell your doctor if you have:
- endometriosis or uterine fibroids.
Do not use clomiphene if you are already pregnant. Talk to your doctor if you have concerns about the possible effects of this medicine on a new pregnancy.
Clomiphene can pass into breast milk and may harm a nursing baby. This medication may slow breast milk production in some women. Tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding a baby.
Using clomiphene for longer than 3 treatment cycles may increase your risk of developing an ovarian tumor. Ask your doctor about your specific risk.
